Cooling off in Tuscaloosa in the summertime can take many different forms. Let's face it: it's pretty steamy here, and it takes some creativity to find ways to enjoy ourselves outside of that air-conditioned home we chose from Tuscaloosa homes for sale.
One of the best ways to bring the internal temperature down is by sampling frozen desserts. Sound good? Well, let's get going. Our real estate agents have made some yummy recommendations for the best frozen desserts in Tuscaloosa.
- Moonshot Creamery. 1650 Jack Warner Parkway, Tuscaloosa
Located on the Riverwalk, Moonshot Creamery is one of Tuscaloosa's favorite stop-offs while on a leisurely stroll. It's a small-batch ice cream shop featuring 20 rotating flavors and some dynamite toppings. Try Coffee, Vanilla Bean, Creme Brulee, Caramelized Banana, Mint Chocolate Chip, and more. Moonshot gets kudos for its great staff, always willing to let you try different flavors.
- Las Pinas. 2003 McFarland Blvd. E., Tuscaloosa
You can choose traditional ice cream like Cookies and Cream and Strawberry Cheesecake or even their fabulous Vanilla at Las Pinas, but you'll also want to try some of the exotic treats that give Las Pinas' menu its distinctive flavor. Try Mangonada and Chamoyada, dairy-free ice cream, with real fruit mixed with homemade sweet and sour sauce and fruit on the top. Sample the popsicles, shaved ice, and Tres Marias. Pick up at the cute storefront or visit them at their traveling location, Las Pinas' truck. Oh, and don't forget to try the chilaquiles next time you're feeling hungry.
- The Baked Bear. 1800 McFarland Blvd. E. Suite 207, Tuscaloosa
The Baked Bear started in California and opened a store in Tuscaloosa where they serve the same "monstrous" ice cream sandwiches that they serve in other locations. You can mix and match the various flavors of ice cream with the dozen or so original-recipe cookies, plus brownies, too. The sandwiches can be rolled with various toppings (imagine Fruity Pebbles and Oreo Crumble), making them very image-worthy to share through social media. Oh, and here's a nice touch: once you make your choices, you can have your sandwich hot pressed.
- Summer Snow. 1501 University Blvd E., Tuscaloosa
We all remember biting into a snow cone in the summer, freezing our mouths numb with the tasty ice. Even today, there's nothing like snow cones — or in the case of Summer Snow, snowballs in cups — to cool off. Choose your flavors of syrup — choose one or mix and match colors, depending on the holiday. Bring the kids after a fun morning at the pool. Summer Snow is open in the cooling off season.
- Ingram Farms. 4300 Highway 43 N., Northport
Ingram Farms is well known for its delicious fruits and vegetables, but it's also known for serving fabled Blue Bell ice cream. What's more, Ingram Farms is celebrated for its famous shrimp and crawfish boils, served on Fridays and Saturdays. Call to place your orders ahead of time. And don't forget to follow up with ice cream.
