Fall Hiking

There's something very special about autumn in Alabama. Here in the Tuscaloosa area, our real estate agents are excited to see the leaves starting to change and pumpkins appearing at the local markets.

If you're looking for ways to enjoy the crisp weather and beautiful scenery in Tuscaloosa this fall, then your journey starts here. These are the best things to do in Tuscaloosa in fall—other than football, of course.

  • The Riverwalk - 2710 Jack Warner Pkwy, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401
One of the best pathways for walking and bike riding in Tuscaloosa, the Riverwalk stretches alongside the banks of the Black Warrior River. Convenient to downtown and minutes from many Tuscaloosa homes for sale, the Riverwalk is a flat, paved trail that offers beautiful views of the river and the wooded landscape that surrounds it. Autumn is an especially great time to explore it, and you'll see some great fall colors here. The Riverwalk is currently 4.5 miles end-to-end, but plans are in place for further expansion.

  • Tuscaloosa Barnyard - 11453 Turner Bridge Rd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35406
The Tuscaloosa Barnyard is a great place to take kids for some fall fun in Tuscaloosa. A popular destination for field trips and birthday parties, the farm is open year-round but is especially festive in autumn. With classic attractions like a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, hay wagon rides, pony rides, and a corn crib, the Tuscaloosa Barnyard has something kids of all ages will enjoy. The Barnyard also offers food, including BBQ and hot dogs, and it's open to the public every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

  • Kentuck Festival of the Arts - Hinton Pk Dr, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404
Now in its 53rd year, the Kentuck Festival of the Arts is a beloved annual event. Deeply rooted in the folk art and traditions of Alabama, the festival brings together more than 250 artists, crafters, musicians, and performers, along with games, activities, food trucks, and beverages from local craft brewers. The 2024 Kentuck Festival of the Arts takes place on October 19 and 20 at Snow Hinton Park, and it will mark the first time it has been held in Tuscaloosa. One-day and two-day passes are available for $15 and $25, respectively.

  • Haunting at the Museum - Gorgas House, 810 Capstone Dr, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487
The Gorgas House Museum is the oldest structure on the University of Alabama campus. Built in 1829, this centuries-old house has haunted vibes in any season, but the spooky ambiance is turned up a notch in October when the Gorgas House hosts several days of Haunting at the Museum. These events take place on October 23-27 and October 30-31 and will include haunted tours that highlight the unique ghostly history of the house. Haunting at the Museum is free to the general public, and visitors are encouraged to arrive in costume.

  • Fall Festival at Jeremiah's Community Garden - 606 James I Harrison Jr Pkwy, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405
Jeremiah's Community Garden is a volunteer-run community garden that aims to help relieve food scarcity in Western Alabama by providing fresh fruits and vegetables to those in need. The upcoming Fall Festival at Jeremiah's Community Garden serves as not only a celebration of the season but also a fundraiser to help the carden continue providing this invaluable service. The festival will be held on October 26 and feature a variety of fall-themed fun and games, as well as food trucks and vendors.
